Dive # 312 - Seal vs. Garibaldi Video

Date: March 7, 2007
Time: 7:00pm
Location: Shaw's Cove
Depth (feet): 33
Dive Time (minutes): 57
Surf (feet): 1
Surge (feet): 1-3
Water Temp (fahrenheit): 57
Visibility (feet): 5 or less
Visibility Description: murky, crappy, lots of tiny critters
Notes and Highlights: Dove with Erik and Scott...approximately low tide, but no swell made the entry/exit easy in minimal surf. Quick drop down on top of the reef, and very quickly we were greeted by a Harbor Seal. No tag on this one that I could see - so it's a "natural" one...Horrible vis conditions, water had almost a "red tide" feel/taste/smell...let's hope not. Bad vis, multiple videographer/photographers, and a very friendly seal made for quite a bit of quick shots and all four of us spent a lot of time knocking each other around. Quite a bit of fun though, and the seal was successful - does anyone know if the fine for taking a Garibaldi applies to all mammals? We also saw a couple of Spanish Shawls, a couple of small rays and a thornback ray. Overall a good time had by all even with the poor water quality.
